A Simple Home Remedy for Curing Strep Throat

In this post I want to share with you a simple home remedy for curing strep throat using common items you’ll find in your kitchen.

I also want to go into more detail about the online herbalist-training course I’m taking from the School of Natural Healing (where I’m learning all this from) and tell you the great deal I got you guys if you decide to sign up.

A simple home remedy for curing strep throat

What is the School of Natural Healing?

The School of Natural Healing was founded by Dr. John R. Christopher in 1953. It is the oldest (still functioning) herbalist school in the United States.

Since it’s founding, many of the world’s top herbalists and naturopathic healers have become instructors and contributors to the program and it has become the means for thousands of students to begin or further their herbal knowledge. The training is top notch and has more material incorporated in it than any other school in the world.

Ultimately, they show you that you can become your own doctor. Best of all, their courses are available online so you can become a qualified healer in the comfort of your own home.

The courses are designed to teach herbalism from the ground up. Beginning with a foundational understanding of natural methodologies, you’ll progress through the many aspects of herbal healing, including herb identification, horticulture, medicinal usage’s, methods of preparation and more.

Students who complete the Master Herbalist program are prepared to take care of themselves and their families, and educate others in natural healing methods.

The School of Natural Healing’s curriculum and philosophy is built upon the understanding and practice of four fundamental principles:

  1. Preventative Nutrition
  2. Eradicating the Cause of Disease
  3. Healing the Body through Natural Methods
  4. Education

The School of Natural Healing’s curriculum consists of 22 course levels ranging from beginner all the way up to Master Herbalist. All courses are provided online so you can do them in the comfort of your own home at your own pace. You can take just one course, or go all the way through to achieve your Master Herbalist Certification.

The first course, Family Herbalist (which I took), is the starting course and is a prerequisite for all courses that follow. It consists of five information-packed sections that gives you the knowledge you need to handle the most common health issues that would arise.

A special deal for readers of TI

I know a bunch of you have been waiting to hear from me on this so I finally got word back about the deal I can offer you guys. Here it is:

If you were to go to their site right now, the normal price of the online home-study course is $295.00.

The deal I was able to get for you is $100 off, so you’ll pay $195 for that same course.

That’s not bad (I wish I got that deal when I signed up); especially when you consider how much you’ll be saving in medical expenses as well as the knowledge you’ll be gaining (which will truly come in great need if things ever go south).

In addition to the $100 discount, they also provided me the following bonuses for you guys:

Bonus #1: A Healthier You Starter Kit ebook (a $29.00 value) which details Dr. Christopher’s renown 3-day and Extended Herbal Cleanse, the Mucusless Diet, How to Set up an Herbal First Aid Kit, the six things you should do each day for maintaining good health and much more.
Bonus #2: The Herbal Legacy Recipes ebook which contains healthy versions of standard recipes we all eat as well as specialized drinks such as the “Infection Fighting Lemon Garlic Drink” and “Green Veggie Energy Drink”.
Bonus #3: A free 6-month Membership (a $39.95 value) to the “A Healthier You” radio show audio archives which go all the way back to the early 90s (and is still going). A Healthier You is hosted by Master Herbalists David and Fawn Christopher, who over the years have covered about every conceivable health topic – from Asthma to Cancer, Heart Disease to Stroke, Pregnancy to Weight Loss (and everything in between) — explaining in detail how and where natural remedies fit into all of this.

The caveat to this is,

I’m only allowed to give you these bonuses this week during the sale.

After Sunday, the bonuses are gone and on top of that, I’m not sure how long thereafter I’ll be able to offer you the $100 discount.

On Thursday morning (tomorrow) I’ll be posting the special link for the discounted price as well as instructions on how to receive your bonuses. Again, this will only remain active until Sunday so if you’re interested be sure to jump on right away.

The course you are taking is EXCELLENT! Great choice of herbal schools, guy, and thanks for arranging such a nice offer for your readers.

Just a “be aware” much honey in the past year or so is coming from China and is “cut” with other sweetners. It is a huge plus, and safer, to use locally produced honey for any purposes, especially personal medical matters. Honey, itself, is extremely healing even used topically on skin sores and even diabetic ulcers.

Someting also – to KNOW if the sore throat is strep, look closely with a flashlight in/at the throat. It you physically see little white spots on the throat skin that is clearly indicative of a streptococcal infection. You need to be able to clearly diagnose so you can choose the proper treatment.

I was hoping that the course you were talking about was through the School of Natural Healing!! They are FANTASTIC!! For the past several years our family has relied on the remedies I learned through their course and from their website: http://www.herballegacy.com/

I keep the strep throat remedy in my refrigerator so we always have it handy – it is amazingly effective on ANY sore throat! In fact, my teenage son had always sneered at the idea of using this particular remedy (he thought it was disgusting) until one day his throat was killing him and he needed to go to work. In desperation, he asked me to give him some just as we were leaving the house to take him to work. Before we left the neighborhood, his throat felt so much better that he was almost mad: “Man! That stuff really works! – That means I’m going to have to take it every time I have a sore throat!!” (he still thinks it’s disgusting, but he goes to it every time).

That’s a great story. Wierd, but I’m actually looking forward to getting a sore throat just to see how effective it is.

Hi Don,

The remedy I used was the following:

1. I blended fresh, chopped-up horseradish roots into apple-cider vinegar making a thick pulp.
2. Chewed ¼ teaspoon of the pulp thoroughly before swallowing, and did this three times a day increasing by 1/8 teaspoon every 3 days until you reach a teaspoon (mine didn’t take that long to resolve).

Great video, thanks. “Just a heads-up” I noticed in the video you were using store bought honey. I would recommend using “organic raw honey” because the honey you get from the store is “processed” and “pasteurized” which kills all of the enzymes and naturally occurring vitamins, etc in the honey so you wind up with “sugar” only, and sugar feeds an infection of any kind. Organic honey should never be heated over 118 degrees or you destroy all the goodies the bee’s have put into it for us. You will have to go to a health food store or a feed store to get “real honey”, super markets are highly unlikely to carry “real” honey.

I was an intensive care nurse and studied nutrition for years so I’m not trying to be critical, just trying to share what I know. Aside from the honey that was an excellent video and I learned from it because herbal and homeopathy are the weakest links in my medical training.

Alden,

Thanks for the great comments and advice. No offense taken.

As an FYI, the recipe provided by the school does indicate local raw honey should be used as the honey in this remedy (unfortunately I just didn’t have any on hand).

with Bragg’s Apple cider vinegar and warm water. This stuff worked great for her.

This is nice to know if I had no other option (antibiotics) but I would love to see how confident you are after having used it on a case of strep throat. I had two horrible bouts and couldn’t imagine NOT having antibiotics to counter it. Perhaps I’m just naive. Thanks for sharing what you know.

Growing up in Fl. Strep and pink eye always got passed around the schools (40 years ago) If we got strep, My mother would make us kids gargle 4 times a day with a mixture of 1 cup white vinegar, 1 cup lemon juice, 3 cups water, and about 1/4 cup honey. this would knock out strep in 2 to 4 days. I have also used this for my children and never needed to take them to the doctor. I have yet to see it fail. I have not tried your solution, and can not attest to its effectiveness. But for some who are allergic to Cyan , this is a safe alternative.
For pink eye, mom would mix up 1 tablespoon of boric acid to a quart of warm water and wash both our eyes out with it morning and night. Again 3 or 4 days is all it took to cure it. always worked for us kids. Never had to do it to my children ( thankfully…lol)

Hope you find this useful,

Thanks for the video! I friend of ours daughter got strep throat and I think she may have passed it on to my 4 year old. I’m a little apprehensive about the taste and fear that he’ll spit it out and hate it. I haven’t tasted this myself but sounds like it’d be kinda gross for a kid. I am, however, willing to give this a whirl! I will let you know how it works. Also, for each waking hour, I should mix another batch? Honey, Cayenne and 4 cloves? Just wondering as it seems like a lot. Anyway, thanks again for the info! Good luck in your endeavors!

Hi Linda,

It’s a similar recipe to this one.

I made my own cough syrup by cooking a chopped onion in two cups of honey until the onions became soft then straining out the honey in a jar and mixing in a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in the honey.

The honey was used for cough syrup.

I was excited to find this home remedy as an alternative to antibiotics for strep throat. However, I made it and took it each hour for four hours and I have to say, I couldn’t take it the fourth hour without dry heaving. I even love all three of the ingredients, it was just too strong. And you said that it would take 24-48 hours for healing but I honestly couldn’t imagine taking that another 20-44 times before being done with it.

I don’t mean to be a Debbie downer!! Just wanted to let you know my experience with it. I think it is great you’re doing what you’re doing and I hope others will have better luck with this remedy. Thank you

I am having a similar experience with my nine year old daughter. She is being a real trooper about taking it, and her symptoms are improving after five doses. However, she is getting to the point that the stuff just won’t go down without her heaving. I was thinking of adding more honey tomorrow… (Is this a good idea or not, Erich?) She has also been gargling with Bragg’s apple cider vinegar.

Elizabeth, What will you do as an alternative to this remedy?

Like I mentioned to Elizabeth, you may want to try and reduce or remove the pepper altogether and also, feel free to change the ratios however you like. Some people do have issues with cayenne pepper.

I came across this site yesterday looking for a home remedy cure for strep throat for myself. I felt it coming along and new that if I act quickly and treat it then I could possibly stop it from developing. I watched the video and thought “Wow. Only 3 ingredients.” I already had all 3 in my kitchen! I eargerly whip up a batch. A little hesitant at first to the taste as it is RAW garlic and cayenne. Surprisingly it was tastety ( a little like sweet and spicy eggroll dip). When taking it, my 7 yr old daughter had asked to try it (of course with a different spoon) I let her. She even thought it was good. Within that first hour I already felt it working in my throat. I took it every hour ( by the way that one batch lasts about 4-6 hours). Before I went to sleep I took a double dose and this morning I am cured! No more strep throat! I am able to breath and swallow easily! Thank you! Thank you for posting this video.

And, I thought you were going to say Buckley’s Cough Medicine. Horseradish root should be included in what to plant for survival. I planted horseradish, bamboo and ginger roots last year to see what would happen. They grow readily enough. The problem I have is with animals scoffing off with my plants. Then, I got to thinking maybe that this is a good thing. Imagine, thousands of bits of bamboo being dropped off in the poo from the animals. It will be interesting to see what has happened ten years down the road.

I get strep often and am allergic to penicillin and my body usually takes a few days for the AB to work. This time I got strep and by the night of the 2nd day was feeling pretty sick- I knew I’d have to go to the doctor in the morning (didn’t want to- didn’t want AB because I’m breastfeeding and we just got over thrush). I found this post and thought I had nothing to lose! I took 2 doses that night and slept much better (I took 2 more doses during the night when I’d wake up). By the next morning I was feeling much better! No more fever! By noon I checked my throat and the white patches were gone! I was amazed!! I felt completely over it a little after 24 hours of taking the first dose! Needless to say it was way better than going to the doctor! I’m almost excited for the next time I get strep to see if it works so well again haha. Thanks for the video!

My throat was almost immediately soothed after the first dose and I took it 2 more times in the next hour and was finally able to fall asleep around 3 a.m. My lymph nodes still feel a bit swollen this morning but my throat is not inflamed and I can swallow without grimacing. I was a bit skeptical when I came upon this remedy but was willing to try anything I was in so much pain, and I am so pleased that it worked! I also gargled with salt water and with braggs apple cider vinegar so that might have also helped but I am certain the remedy played a large role. Thanks for posting!

I’m fighting strep for the second time within a month. My nearly 2 year old daughter caught it from me, then she gave it back, lol! Anyway, we don’t have a doctor, so instead of acquiring yet another ER bill, I decided to find an inexpensive, natural remedy I could take at home. I tried the salt water with ACV gargle – couldn’t handle the taste! So I made this blend up. I’m a WIMP when it comes to hot spices & rarely eat them. The cayenne has a big kick in the beginning, but wears off within minutes. I’ve only taken one dose so far, and can already tell a difference in my throat. The minimal swelling has already gone down some, and the small amount of pain I was having is now gone. I’m not coughing anymore, either, as the air isn’t tickling my throat when I breathe now. I’m going to keep this up at least til I feel better.

My only question is, with AB, you know they prescribe them for 10 days no matter when you no longer have symptoms. With this, do you only take it until you feel better or is there a set amount of days to continue, regardless of how you feel?

Hi Michele,

first off, thanks for visiting (and sorry to hear about the throat). Typically you can continue to take this until the symptoms go away (since it’s food). I’ve heard of some people becoming nauseous with taking this over time (I personally don’t get that reaction), so basically what I’m saying is listen to your body. If you do get the nausea, it may help to reduce the cayenne a bit.

Hope that helps,

– Erich

For those suffering from a sore throat, cough, or other symptoms of influenza.

To cure acid reflux you must fix the problem by strengthening the lower esophageal sphincter.
Here are the instructions to easing your sore throat pain: Stick out your tongue as far as
possible, trying to touch the tip of it to your chin.

While it can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint the problem that’s triggering a chronic cough, the most common causes are tobacco use, postnasal drip, asthma and acid reflux — the backflow of stomach acid that can irritate your throat. Chronic cough typically disappears once the underlying problem is treated. :-`^

Joe,

Try chewing 1 tsp of fresh bottled horseradish (found at most grocers) for 30 seconds every waking hour. This will greatly help clear up the sinuses to allow the body to heal the infection.

Keep in mind this will give you a good “burn” in the nose for a few seconds so you may need to work up to a tsp.
